Age of Sail

Everything in this world has its beginnings. After seeing modern aircraft carriers, battleships, and the branch that operates it all, it’s often hard to imagine the beginnings of all of this. Don’t worry, this exhibit Age of Sail fills in all the blanks! I was commissioned to create a piece for the exhibit and contracted to work on other parts of this wonderful exhibit, which tells “the hull truth” about the beginnings of the Navy below tall masts and sails at the National Museum of the American Sailor. I had the privilege of contributing to the transformation of the space, which takes visitors on a journey of every aspect of a sailors life, the technology of the time, and structure of the Navy itself! Please take a moment look through a fraction of the show with final attention to what the sailors ate! Who knew it could look so beautiful! Seriously, the best way to experience this show is drive to the museum and check it out!

Tatoo

Have you seen a tattoo lately? Chances are you’ve seen a great number of them, but have you wondered where they come from. Did you know they’ve had a long history in the Navy? The exhibition Tatoo answers such questions and a bit more! I was contracted to work on this exhibit with Ian La Blance and others at the National Museum of the American Sailor just outside the Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago IL This was a special treat for me and I’m deeply honored to be a part of telling this story of our great military history. Plus, a very unique history for this exhibit, which take viewers from the roots of tattoos in Polynesia to modern times all within the context of the Navy and even the tattoo artists that made them! Please take a moment to see just part of the exhibit with a few progress shots, but it’s best to get down to the museum in person to really get the full effect!

New Looks + Precious Cargo

What does an already great museum need? A great new entrance and front desk area! Still in progress, this is going to be a grand entrance for the museum and will make a grand statement! A great sense of joy came from working with the National Museum of the American Sailor what will be a fitting tribute to the men and women, who serve or who have served in the Navy!

What do you when you have a helm wheel you need to move to a good home that’s hundreds of years old? Design containers very carefully! I was fortunate to be involved in making sure these precious items and their histories were protected!
